TerraBrix is a brand by the company Mico Systems that presents itself as a provider of production systems of highly effective compost tea 4.0 for professional users. Friedrich von Jagow is one of the company’s owners. He describes the positive effects compost tea has on plants and microorganisms in the soil. Using the product increases soil vitality, and the soil can actively bind carbon.

When talking to Friedrich von Jagow, you quickly notice how passionate he is about the project Compost Tea 4.0. “After decades of conventional plant cultivation based on mechanical and chemical damaging of soil life, we can finally observe a change of thinking. Those responsible for agriculture, but also local authorities, have now recognized that only living soil is healthy soil and that this must be the foundation of any plant growth,” he says. “And our product provides the solution.”

But what exactly is compost tea? Friedrich von Jagow explains: “An alternative name is compost tea extract. With the system developed by us and patented in 2023, we flush out conventional compost, supply the resulting solution with oxygen, heat and sugar, and thus stimulate the multiplication of the microorganisms it contains. A figure that might help you imagine what this means: We manage to have about 890 million microorganisms per millilitre of liquid after the production process.”

Friedrich von Jagow describes another special feature: “Usually, compost tea is very perishable and has to be used within 20 hours. With our production method, we achieve a keepability of three weeks without any negative effects on the microorganisms. Therefore, the TerraBrix system is perfect for professional agriculture and plant cultivation on a larger scale.” Apart from agricultural open spaces and greenhouses, the compost tea can also be used for sustainable garden and landscape maintenance in communities as well as on golf courses and sports turf.

The 41-year-old entrepreneur and the specialised team members of Mico Systems are agriculture experts. “My family cultivates agricultural areas in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. I grew up there. I then went on to study law in Freiburg, went to Shanghai in China for a study visit, and finished my master’s in economics in Hamburg, Bologna (Italy), and Haifa (Israel). After that, I worked at a lawyer’s office, at a fiscal company, and founded a start-up, before becoming partner at Mico Systems.”

Mico Systems with the brand TerraBrix is one of the exhibitors at the joint stand Young Innovators. This area is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and can be found in Hall 3C. NürnbergMesse offers companies in the International StartUp Area special conditions for participating in GaLaBau, the leading International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces (www.galabau-messe.com/en). The fair takes place from 11 – 14 September 2024.
