They look futuristic: The black and orange cleaning robots by the company TOSSTEC headquartered in Dettingen south of Stuttgart. But the inner values are much more important than the appearance, Torsten Reuß, owner of the company, explains. “Our robots are equipped with cameras and sensors. The robots analyse the geometry of a natural pool and then calculate the optimum cleaning route. This is what makes them so efficient.”

TOSSTEC was founded in 2013, the first products were launched on the market in 2015. Since then, Torsten Reuß has stayed true to his principle of offering a modular product range. The company offers manual cleaning devices that can be upgraded to fully automatic cleaning robots, depending on the model. The robots can be conveniently set up and controlled from the patio using an app – the connection to the smartphone is established via Bluetooth.

"We are constantly developing and optimising our cleaning robots,” says Torsten Reuß, hinting at the newest addition to the product range. “It is a retrofittable filter that provides extremely clear water in natural pools and swimming ponds.” He explains how it works: “The fleece filter is developed and produced in-house and consists of three layers. It has to be cleaned manually after each use. But this is very easy to achieve, because three thin layers are easier to clean than one thick fleece.

Torsten Reuß adds: “Of course, the self-cleaning filter that is built into the cleaning robot by default stays active. But now it can be complemented if customers wish so. Of course, this retrofitting is possible for all our models that are on the market so far. This is one of the reasons why I describe my company as sustainable.

Torsten Reuß, now in his mid-50s, is an experienced mechanical engineer who has worked for a big electric tools manufacturer in the Stuttgart area for more than ten years. When he had a natural pool erected in his garden for himself and his family, he tried different cleaning robots for maintaining the pool and the water plant areas. But none of the models convinced him, so about ten years ago, he sat down and designed his own robot. And thus, TOSSTEC was born.

TOSSTEC is one of the exhibitors at the joint stand Young Innovators. This area is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and can be found in Hall 3C. NürnbergMesse offers companies in the International StartUp Area special conditions for participating in GaLaBau, the leading International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces (www.galabau-messe.com/en). The fair takes places from 11 – 14 September 2024.
