The Botanica app developed by MEMOgreen-media is directed at apprentices and students as well as trainers in gardening and landscaping companies and other companies in the green industry. The app lets you practice the correct spelling of botanical names via smartphone or tablet. Plus, you can view and learn the characteristics of about 400 plants. The creative minds behind the Botanica project are Jonathan Hasenfuß, responsible for programming the app, and Nadja Grimm, who explains the benefits of the app.

“I work at the gardening and landscaping company Zäh in Wassertrüdingen,” Nadja Grimm says. “The town is located between Stuttgart and Nuremberg. I am responsible for surveying and accounting. When working with our apprentices – there are seven to ten apprentices in our company – I realized that today, learning botanical names and characteristics of plants from books alone does not work anymore. Young people are very technophilic. Besides, the new media offer plenty of options for (more or less) playful learning. This is where the idea for learning about plants via an app came from.”

You can find the Botanica app in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Since its foundation in 2021, the app has had over 10,000 active users. There is a FreeVersion and a ProVersion that is offered for a term of one to four years.

The inventors have just added a new feature that allows trainers to set learning objectives for their apprentices. Nadja Grimm explains: “Trainers can also use a pre-configured lesson plan. Everything is very intuitive. For example, all parties involved can see from the coloured marking of lessons when agreed learning objectives have not yet been achieved.” Another very useful aspect of Botanica are the images that show distinctive traits of plants and therefore help determining them.

Fair visitors are very welcome to visit the MEMOgreen-media stand. Apart from getting to know the app, there is also a special offer. At the stand, there will be educational large-format posters that show 25 European broadleaf trees with their foliage and fruit. And just for Nuremberg, there will also be a poster with 25 exotic broadleaf trees that are definitely worth seeing.

MEMOgreen-media is one of the exhibitors at the joint stand Young Innovators. This area is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and can be found in Hall 3C. NürnbergMesse offers companies in the International StartUp Area special conditions for participating in GaLaBau, the leading International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces (www.galabau-messe.com/en). The fair takes places from 11 – 14 September 2024.
