GaLaBau 2024: Many highlights for the whole industry

The supporting programme for the 25th anniversary edition of GaLaBau includes first-class presentations and exciting events on current topics at the highest professional level. The programme is of interest to trade visitors from the entire GaLaBau sector.

Visitors take part in the GaLaBau supporting programme
The supporting programme for the 25th anniversary edition of GaLaBau, the Leading International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces, offers top-class lectures and exciting events on current topics at the highest professional level. In addition to various products and services with multi-sector appeal, trade visitors will find programme items specially designed for their needs, including many opportunities to share ideas, network and learn. Innovative formats such as the A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO DIGITISATION forum and the GREEN-BLUE PATH will continue and be further refined in 2024. Proven highlights such as the elaborately and impressively designed exhibition area of the Federal Association of Horticulture, Landscaping and Sports Facilities (Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau, BGL) – “The future of green living spaces” – and the Landscape Gardener Cup will once again be visitor magnets this year. In 2024, the outdoor area, a much-appreciated centre of attraction at the trade fair, will again be home to the presentation areas for earthworks and site maintenance, along with the E-Mobility area. Various trade forums and selected activities for horticultural and landscaping companies, landscape architects and representatives from local authorities and specialist agencies round out the wide-ranging programme.

The extensive supporting programme of the leading trade fair for the gardening and landscaping sector offers visitors from all fields a wide range of formats that provide innovative solutions to meet the current challenges facing the industry:

  • This will be the second time that the GREEN-BLUE PATH will highlight committed exhibitors whose products and solutions are positively related to climate adaptation. The industry pioneers were able to apply to participate in the run-up to the trade fair and were selected by an expert jury. Guided tours will also be offered for the first time this year in cooperation with Hochschule Osnabrück, Institute for Landscaping, Outdoor Sports Facilities and Green Spaces. Led by industry experts, these will introduce interested trade visitors to selected participating companies. • The Federal Association of Horticulture, Landscaping and Sports Facilities (Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau, BGL) – “The future of green living spaces” – will focus on the topic of water this year at the exhition. In addition to sustainability and climate change, this is an essential topic for the industry. The stand is an interdisciplinary focal point for visitors and the centrepiece for various lecture formats and award ceremonies.

Innovation Hub showcases the potential of the green sector

With the Innovation Hub, GaLaBau is bundling special display areas and special products and services on all aspects of innovation in Hall 3C for the first time:

  • In the forum A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO DIGITISATION, visitors can find out about current trends and practical solutions relating to digitalization in horticultural and landscaping companies. Power interviews and personal discussions with digitalization experts and fellow tradespeople will also provide inspiration and practical knowledge.
  • At the Young Innovators pavilion, 26 German start-ups will present their innovative products and new developments to an international audience. Supported by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), this is where young companies can make initial contact with their future customers. Trade visitors will gain a representative overview of the innovative potential of the horticultural and landscaping industry.
  • 14 international start-ups will introduce themselves and present their product innovations to the professional community at GaLaBau as part of the International Startup Area pavilion.
  • In the access area to the Innovation Hub, interested visitors will also find information on the winners of the GaLaBau Innovation Medal. As in previous years, BGL will also present this award for important technical innovations at the 25th edition of GaLaBau.

Interaction, competition and expertise for horticultural and landscaping companies

Horticultural and landscaping companies will find tailored offers in the supporting programme to deepen their knowledge, measure their skills and share ideas:

  • The GaLaBau Camp in Hall 3C is the highlight of the trade fair for trainees and many young professionals in the green sector, for networking, further training and career planning. The camp focuses on the concept of active networking, with short workshops and opportunities to meet, talk and share experiences. Goal wall shooting, slackline, table football and a chill-out lounge take care of the ‘fun factor’.
  • For the Landscape Gardener Cup in the exhibition park, young gardeners compete in teams of two for the title of German Landscape Gardening Champion. Twelve 4.5 x 4.5-metre gardens will be created live here, reflecting the broad spectrum of horticultural training. Work will be carried out before an audience for two days starting at 9:00, and the top team will be announced at 17:00 on Friday, 13 September.
  • The various keynote speeches offered daily at the GaLaBau Expert Forum at the BGL trade fair stand will provide an opportunity for dialogue with experts, companies and associations. The short presentations in the areas of private gardens and public green spaces, regulations and standards, as well as business management, are intended to present the most important information on the individual topics in a concise and compact manner. In addition, all BGL prizes and awards, such as the GaLaBau Innovation Medal 2024, the BGL Education Award 2024 and the ELCA Trend Award 2024, will be presented at the GaLaBau Expert Forum.

Hands-on activities in the outdoor area of the trade fair attract trade visitors

The outdoor area is a particular visitor magnet, especially for the horticultural and landscaping companies and representatives of local authorities and specialist agencies.

  • The presentation areas for earthworks and site maintenance offer the opportunity to experience the latest machinery and equipment first-hand and in action.
  • In the E-Mobility Area in moderated presentations, exhibitors will showcase their newly developed construction and maintenance machinery as well as electrically powered municipal service vehicles to give visitors a live demonstration of the potential of e-mobility in gardening and landscaping.

Specialist highlights: Expertise and inspiration for landscape architects

Landscape architects and representatives of local authorities and specialist agencies will also find presentations tailored to their interests at the highest professional level:

  • At the GaLaBau Landscape Talks in Hall 2 the current topics of the industry will be discussed: At the talks organised by Patzer Verlag, experts will address the topic of "Urban greenery fit for the climate!". This is because the number of hot days in summer is increasing and periods of heat are lasting longer. At the same time, biodiversity is decreasing and ecosystems are changing. Green space authorities, landscaping companies, landscape architects and tree nurseries receive answers to current questions. In addition, the German Federal Association of Playground Equipment and Leisure Facility Manufacturers (Bundesverband für Spielplatzgeräte- und Freizeitanlagen-Hersteller, BSFH) and Playground@Landscape offer trade visitors and exhibitors insightful presentations on all the information they need to know for the inspection and maintenance of playgrounds, play areas in schools and day-care centres, and skate parks, for example. A new addition to the Landscape Talks programme is Neext. The goal of Neext is to investigate the status quo and shape a competitive future based on the power of society, the economy and industry to innovate and design.
  • In Hall 1, visitors will find the Playground theme area, with many new ideas for play spaces and equipment. BSFH offers a place to discuss play and exercise areas at the BSFH Meeting Point.
  • The Federation of German Landscape Architects (Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten, bdla) also offers top-class lectures in the supporting programme for landscape architects in Hall 3A. Among other things, the “Construction Seminar” advanced training event will focus on safeguarding and promoting species diversity and biodiversity in urban areas. Experiences from the planning, construction, care and maintenance of façade and roof greening projects will also be shared. The presentation of “FRESHGREEN – Exhibition of Young Landscape Architecture” rounds out the programme.
