Passive capillary bonded drainage and uncoupling as a compete system

To ensure that ceramic tiles or natural stone pavers laid in a bond on balconies and terraces remain undamaged and attractive for the long term, a properly installed ground structure is crucial.

The Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 4 passive capillary bonded drainage and uncoupling system ensures ventilation beneath the floor cover and uncoupling of the cover from the substrate. The mortar thus dries fast, moisture is quickly and reliably eliminated and tensions are reduced. Tiles or natural stone pavers are laid directly onto the DITRA-DRAIN 4. The result is a structure that, combined with the waterproofing layer, creates the correct bond with the substrate. The trusted DITRA uncoupling system ensures that tensions between the substrate and the covering are neutralised, thereby effectively hindering the formation of cracks on the surface. The mat consists of a closed polyethylene sheet with truncated conical studs on one side that are covered with a laminated filter webbing. Some of these studs consist of inverted truncated pyramid shapes, which results in square undercut chambers on the underside that serve to bond the thin-bed mortar.

In this way, even large-format elements can be laid safely and without problems. Specially developed for effective drainage of large balconies and terraces, the Schlüter-DITRA-DRAIN 8 offers high-performing bonded drainage and uncoupling. It features an additional bonding fleece on the bottom side that provides anchoring in the thin-bed mortar. Thanks to this design, DITRA-DRAIN 4 and 8 can withstand high compressive loads and forms an additional protective layer for the bonded waterproofing. In DITRA-DRAIN 8 the drainage area is greater, so that even more water accumulation can be drained away.
