The company excav is a young start-up based in Erlangen. Founded in October 2023, the company currently has four employees. Maurice Mohr is one of them. He is responsible for marketing and sales. He explains how the excavation work system developed by excav works and which benefits it brings to landscape gardeners.

If you have ever worked on a construction site, you will know how challenging it is to use an excavator, wheel loader or crawler tractor to shape the excavation or ground formation exactly as required for the construction project. It is often necessary to conduct extensive surveying work in advance, which then results in constant manual checking during the machine work.

For this use case, the company excav offers an interesting alternative: the mobile GNSS excavation work system excav PILOT. Maurice Mohr explains: “We use the satellite-based navigation system. Hence the term GNSS, which stands for Global Navigation Satellite Systems.” He adds: “Our product supports machine operators: Thanks to precise measurement and practical display, they know exactly where to excavate or doze more.”

The system excav PILOT can be used on any construction machinery. Users only need to specify whether they are operating an excavator bucket, a wheel loader shovel or a dozer blade. The system is ready for use within a few minutes, even without any previous knowledge.

The system comes in a suitcase. It contains a sensor and an indicator cross that can be easily ap-plied to any shovel, blade, or bucket. Due to the practical magnetic mount, they do not leave any traces. The necessary tablet is attached to a windowpane in the driver's cabin using a suction cup holder. Plus, the provided base station is installed at the construction site. Once everything is in place, the setup assistant on the tablet leads the user through all relevant steps for starting the op-eration.

Maurice Mohr is convinced that excav PILOT is especially valuable for gardening and landscaping companies: “One reason for that is that established GNSS assistance systems are significantly more expensive than our product. Plus, we offer a mobile system that can be used for different construction machinery at any time.”

The 27-year-old has been working for excav since March 2024. He grew up in a village south of Fulda and studied mathematical economics and data science in Bayreuth and Chemnitz. Maurice Mohr and the excav team are looking forward to the trade fair in Nuremberg and to exchanging ideas with the trade visitors.

excav is one of the exhibitors at the joint stand of the International StartUp Area. This area is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and can be found in Hall 3C. NürnbergMesse offers companies in the International StartUp Area special conditions for participating in GaLaBau, the leading International Trade Fair for Urban Green and Open Spaces (www.galabau-messe.com/en). The fair takes place from 11 – 14 September 2024.
